    Matt with Speidel Fruit Mill

Well, we just finished an incredible weekend of picking.  For our first weekend, we greatly exceeded our wildest expectations about the yield of apples.  Three trees brought in quite a haul.  We can’t thank the contribute of our first three tree.  Check out our facebook page for the latest trees.

So, what will we do with those apples.  Well, the model to my right is showing off the latest and greatest in German technology – the Speidel Fruit Mill.  We intend to drop those collected apples down that giant funnel with the hopes of crushed apples in return.  It has been a long year of work and planning to get to this point where we can simply press some apples.

    Thanks for following our endeavor.

Did you know that over 80% of all apple juice consumed in the United States comes from another country?  Branch Out Cider is dedicated to breaking our dependence on foreign apples.
The Apple Independence blog is our chance to share this endeavor in urban agriculture with you.  We’ll post stories about how we’re collaborating with apple tree owners to create apple wine from their local apples.  Maybe, you’d like to submit “Your Story” idea?
